Divisional History
The 29th Infantry Division was formed in 1936 in Erfurt and was finally
first used, after some re-organisation, in Polish campaign followed by the
western campaign and in Operation "Barbarossa". It was one of the many
divisions which were destroyed in 1942 in the "Cauldron" of Stalingrad.
Their successive organization was the 29th Armored Infantry Division, which
in 1943 was formed from the 345th Infantry Division stationed in France.
This unit was used first in 1943 in Italy.
The Model
I had heard many bad things about the Marder kit from the Alan company from
many people and this had put me off building it for some time.
It is nevertheless a very beautiful vehicle from the Tank Hunting Troop and
is probably the only plastic kit of this vehicle on the market. It was very
cheap to buy and basically moulded. Some putty was required during the
construction phase but in my opinion a model builder can make a good vehicle
out of a basic kit. Expensive P.E sets and after market individual link
tracks do not have to be used. Ideas are needed.
Painting
The vehicle was sprayed in Panzer Grey. I used Humbrol colours in order to
get the following steps with no problems. Drying time was 24 hours. In
order to get this weathered and partly washed out winter camouflage I
sprayed in the next stage of painting with white Tamiya acrylic colour over
the vehicle and let this dry for approx. 20 minutes. With a brush, which
was dipped into a dilluted Tamiya acrylic, I began with the white color at
edges and corners again using the brush strokes in a top-down direction in
order to represent the washed colour better. After this oil colours were
used around the weathered edges in Panzer Grey for detailing.
Result
On a small budget one can achieve an excellent example of a Wehrmacht Tank
Hunter vehicle simply through careful and dilligent work.
