From 22nd to 23rd one of the four greatest model exhibitions in Europe took place in Mosonmagyarovar/Hungary. The site for the event was lokated in an old palace that was renewed by adding a glass roof. Therefore one had bright light to get the best impression from the exposed models.
Besides some Austrian delegations, such as the IPMS-Austria and the MBF-Ried (Upper Austria), also the MBR Vienna sallied forth to have a great weekend at our Hungarian friends!
This year the tenth anniversary of the exhibition and of the "Mosonmagyaróvári Makettező Klub" took place and thus the organisation commitee took great pains to make a go of this weekend:
Nearly 1700 (!) models from contributors from 15 states entered the competition that was organised in 52 different categories. The quality of the models was very high.
Each category was gauged by three judges at least, to ensure an impartial valuation. The left photo shows some of them. Sitting from left to right during the "after action review": D. Wolf (AUT), the Hungarian Chief Judge, J. Rank (GER, B. Lustig (GER), P. Zákányi (HUN).
I was also invited, to help judging the 1:72 scale military categories, which led to a very busy saturday afternoon from 1300 to 1900 hrs due to the difficulty to pick out the best work out of such a high quality.
The organisation staff was not inferior to the previous efforts of the modellers by doing a great job with the
- registration of such a high number of models for the competition,
- judge organisation,
- supporting programm (coach riding, football, dancing, reenactors,...)
- involvement of various traders and
- a well organised award ceremony.
Therefore and due to a lot of other things like the enjoyable spirit of the event all claims were satisfied.
Those of you, who are interested in the Hungarian quality of the preparations for this competition are invited, to have a look at their homepage. From an online registration form, a hotel and room list, tourist information about the town, a detailed program brochure containing also the required contact adresses to several excellent maps of the site, one can find everything what one needs for a personal preparation - and all of that in seven (!) languages. This is the desired sort of customer care!
Not only the model "freaks" were to be found there, but also a lot of young and the young at heart people visited the exhibition and were astonished, how accurate one can resemble the reality "en miniature". Unfortunately for the photographers this fact caused some delay and obstacles to take their snapshots.
The award ceremony on sunday afternoon was assisted by a projection of pictures of all winning models. Thus also the foreign competitors and visitors could comprehend the information concerning the results and draw comparisons between the different models. That was a fine idea that could only come to reality because the organisation was quick and comprehensive as there was little time between the end of the analysis of the judge´s rank lists and the ceremony.
All of you, who don´t believe me and those bundle of superlatives are strongly recommended to visit the next year´s event and see for yourself!
